The Shire of Dragon's Mist is hosting a Winter Bazaar this weekend at the Hillsboro Washington County Fairgrounds. Saturday from 9AM to 7PM it is free and open to the public. This is a chance to find unique and Medieval Christmas gifts. [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I will have our full pottery booth. Please come by and at least browse. There will be SCA combat in the form of a Buy A Life Tournament to raise money for the Lukiemia and Lymphoma Society.
To recapp this weekend.

Friday night was the masked ball. The hotel provided excellent nibbles. I managed to dance twice. One dance was the Horse's Bransle (pronounced Brawl). This was danced in a line of ladies facing a line of lords so that as the dance progressed every lord danced with every lady some more briefly than others. Yes there was a prince in that line but he was one of the ones that didn't stay long. Every repeat moved you two lords down and the second one was the one you danced with. The second dance was the Korabushka and this Russian dance isn't nessicarily a period dance but it has become tradition. This is danced by couples in a circle, so of course I danced with [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil. He hates the idea of dancing but when you actually get him out on the dance floor he enjoys it.
The Blow by Blow account here. )

Sunday was more sitting at the booth and the bout of sickness. I made it home only to get sick again right out side my house. I got some sleep and feel better now although I seem to be running a fever. But it was a good weekend. I do believe we actually made a profit this weekend after site and booth fees, lodging, food, and gas. That is just icing on the cake.
I got sick this morning.Way too TMI )
Tonight is the Oregon Potters Association meeting and I'm running for a Board position to see if I can't improve the membership situation before washing my hands of the group. I'm worried that though there are 13 AT LARGE positions and 10 of us running I won't get elected.

Then after the meeting, I'm heading down to Eugene for An Tir's Twelveth Night Coronation.

Yeehaw!!!

Nov. 2nd, 2008 11:54 pm
I just got the news from Gwenlian Black Lion, I have been accepted as Argent Scroll Herald for the Kingdom of An Tir. This means I'm the herald responsible for Kingdom Heraldic Symposium and the education of new heralds who would like help. I'm going to be busy. But Yay it is a promotion. No more wearing tabards athwarty for me.=)

Sad Day

Jul. 20th, 2008 03:05 pm
It is with heavy heart that I type this. For those on my F-List who play in a land called An Tir, I regret to inform you that His Lordship Cirian Cluna Ferta has passed away. He was at Coronation and had a fatal heart attack in his sleep. The loss is imense to me and many others as Cirian was involved in many aspects of what made our land great.

Cirian was the reason I became a herald and has been my unofficial teacher. He was one of my deputies as well as a mentor. He was also seneschal of my shire. He was a kingdom Herald and bardic rabble rouser. His many and verried shoes will be hard to fill.

I saw him Wednessday at a heraldry meeting and he was lacking much of his usual pep due to his having been in the hospital over the preceeding weekend but he had been determined to attend the meeting and then Coronation this weekend. He went amoung friends after doing what he loved. His lady was with him.

In great Sadness,
Meadhbha inghean Bhrain Mhuilleoir, GdS

Your result for The hardcore SCA Test...

The Queen's Champion

You are really involved in the SCA. You probably have some really cool garb. You put a lot of work into playing the game and making sure its fun for others too. For a lot of folks an event wouldn't be the same without you. You probably have a tendancy to over do it sometimes. You may need help knowing when to say "No" or when to stop sewing and go to bed.

So [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I finally made an apperance at Friday Night Revels. Not many people there but ir was good to finally go again. On the way home I decided I want some ice cream to celebrate the mailing of my application so we stopped at Safeway. This was around 10pm. I was wearing this oufit:

looking at the ice cream when this guy who works at the Safeway did the most chivalrous and courtly bow and said, "My queen". Now I've been called a princess, have been asked if I'm in a play, or told I looked raidiant when stopping in grocery stores in garb but this was the first I've been bowed to.
No sooner do I finish autocrating my last St. Crispin's Day event than I volunteer to be Merchantcrat for Kingdom Arts and Sciences Championship in March. I have a serious case of helium hand.
So my weekend was great. I was in charge of merchants for the Shire of Dragon's Mist Harvest Tourney and all five showed up. I do feel kind of bad because I think [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I did the best and the others didn't do so well sales wise. But [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I are doing the dance of Capitalist Supperiority. (We had our best single day sales of our pottery ever. Of course half had been previously ordered and then delievered with payment Saturday but still we did good.)

My Weekend

Aug. 29th, 2006 10:51 pm
I know this is a little late but I had a fabulous weekend and for once I remmebered the digital camera so y'all get pic spam.
Long and Short of It event report )
But not as much as I scare them!

I'm wearing my pewter button that says that today.

[livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I are going camping this weekend. So we have both cars loaded up. Yes both cars for two of us for four days. We are camping at one of our Medival events, Long and Short of It. We are also merchanting our pottery, thus the need for two cars.

Anyway I won't be on line until sometime Sunday evening. Hope you all have a great weekend.
So [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I went to our friend Bridgit's yesterday afternoon and this afternoon to silk paint our banners. My banner is completely done and his isn't even finnished resisted. My arms are far more complicated than his arms. But he decided he wanted to show the example of what we heralds always tell our clients: submit the arms in the clasic English heraldic style and display them after they pass however you wish as long as they are still recognizeablly the blazon. So [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil decided to do his banner in the Pacific Northwest Native American style. When both banners are finished I'll post pictures.

This brings me to a question for my flist. Do any of you live anywhere near Darbyshire? I have a friend who would really like some digital pictures of a document in the Darbyshire hall of records so if you live near there, could you contact me through my email on my profile. I'd greatly appriciate it.
So I had a good weekend. I delivered on a pottery order that I had had since December. The order was to the current King of An Tir (of course said order was made long before he won the Crown Tournament). It was a gift to his Queen and they both loved it. It always makes me happy when people love the pottery I make.

I also got to do some court heraldry in Royal Court. I was able to herald [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu's offering of the Order of the Laurel. I also heralded another friends Order of the Goutte de Sange (second level service award). I like being able to be the Crown's voice to give my friends goodies.

Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I took our pottery to the Dundee Farmer's Market. We sold enough to keep me in coffee and gas for the next week. We'll be back there this coming Sunday so hopefully I have good sales this week too.

I went into the studio to throw some more pots, and succeeded at throwing larger then normal. (For those of you who aren't familiar with my pottery let's just say a couple of pieces live in my purse. I usually throw minuatures.) So I was pleased with myself. It felt good throwing after a month brake.
If you live in the greater Portland, Oregon area and looking for something to do tommarrow before it gets to be the surface of Mercury, my Medieval group is invading the Beaverton Farmer's Market for a Medieval Day at the Market. I will be dancing at about 9AM (lasting for about fifteen minutes.) I will also have some of my pottery with me. The festivities run from 8:30AM to 1:30PM. So drop by and say hi.
So [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I went to Tillamook for the Red, White and Moo parade (Tillamook, Oregon is famous for diary products but espeacially cheese so the theme is not that unusual.) Our SCA group was contact by a truss company to ride on their float: a 48 foot flat bed with a castle on each end and us in Medival clothes and two fighters in heavy armor fighting in the middle. So Earc and I arrived about 9AM (Tillamook is about an hour and a half two hours away. We got up at 6AM and those of you who know me know I like to go to bed between 2AM and 4AM so 6 wasn't my favorite part of this plan.) We were up in the float (reached by a ladder) when about 20minutes to parade time I decide to go use the restroom so I go down the ladder only there was a ditch that I stepped in. I twisted my ankle . . . again. (It seems like once a year for the last 3 years I twist my right ankle between the end of May and middle June. The first year i even managed it on my birthday.) Now I'm on the couch with ice (finally) on the ankle and pain meds. (Which I rarely take.) We did the whole parade(I sat on a chair on the float most of the time.) and then the guy who asked us to be in the parade had the eight of us over to his house for pizza as a thanks.(The float won the Festival trophy.)
So today I had two demos in middle schools for the Society for Creative Ananchronism (the Medival recreation group Earc and I belong to) and dance practice this evening. I spent the day introducing myself as Bantierna Meadhbha inghean Bhrain Mhuilleoir (Lady Maeve daughter of Bran the Miller in 12th- 13th century Irish Gealic). The morning demo I bored a bunch of middle schoolers with talk on pottery while Earc did the heraldry thing to two classes. Earc didn't go to the second demo and I had him take the heraldry books home leaving me with the pottery. So what was I asked to talk about at the second demo? You guessed it heraldry. So I (with the help of another Lady) did 20 minutes of extmporaneous talk on heraldry with three examples of coats of arms and no books. Twice.

Then this evening was dance practice. We danced all the spritely dances (which are my favorites, but Trenchmore with three couples is nearly as much fun as five or more couples because you don't get as dizzy and that's the fun part)and some other more sedate dances.

Oh did I mention I did this on three hours of sleep with an hour nap. Maeve is about to be dead.

I must thank [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu for the lovely icon. It is some of her embroidery.
