12th Night.
Jan. 12th, 2009 08:00 amTo recapp this weekend.
Friday night was the masked ball. The hotel provided excellent nibbles. I managed to dance twice. One dance was the Horse's Bransle (pronounced Brawl). This was danced in a line of ladies facing a line of lords so that as the dance progressed every lord danced with every lady some more briefly than others. Yes there was a prince in that line but he was one of the ones that didn't stay long. Every repeat moved you two lords down and the second one was the one you danced with. The second dance was the Korabushka and this Russian dance isn't nessicarily a period dance but it has become tradition. This is danced by couples in a circle, so of course I danced with
earcmacfithil. He hates the idea of dancing but when you actually get him out on the dance floor he enjoys it.
Saturday I sat at our pottery booth, attended the herald's meeting, sat consult table for a while, and attended court. Much court. In Owain and Wrenn's finall court I went up with the fellow heralds for Brendan's ceremony to become Lowanmanne Herald. I went back to
earcmacfithil between final Court and Coronation court. As I was walking down the stairs carrying both our laptop cases and my mug, Her Royal Magesty Wrenn said, "Psst." I came over to where she was on the stairs. She hled out a ring. I didn't have a hand free so I held out a finger and she slipped it on saying, "Happy 12th night." I thanked her and went on. I was sort of lost thinking about the herald ceremony I was suppossed to have at First court.
I show up at the ball room where the Courts are being held to be informed by Gwenlian Black Lion Herald that my ceremony had been bumped to Sunday. Earc had closed up out booth and come down since he was doing the ceremony. So he stayed for the coronation before going back up to the booth. My friend Tecangl had come down for the day with my friend Gwenliana (both heralds) and Tec wasn't about to miss my elevation so she wrangled with the retinue. Five minutes latter she is tapping (rather hard) on my shoulder saying, "Get earc." So I leave the ballroom and run upstairs get Earc. While he is grabbing the cash out of the cash box and his tabard, I'm fillinf my new mug for the ceremony. We get down to the ball room right as the herald calls,"Meadhbha inghean Bhrain Mhuilleoir and the College of heralds." That is my cue. Earc has just gotten behind the thrones. The video shows what was next.
Sunday was more sitting at the booth and the bout of sickness. I made it home only to get sick again right out side my house. I got some sleep and feel better now although I seem to be running a fever. But it was a good weekend. I do believe we actually made a profit this weekend after site and booth fees, lodging, food, and gas. That is just icing on the cake.
