So [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil and I went to Tillamook for the Red, White and Moo parade (Tillamook, Oregon is famous for diary products but espeacially cheese so the theme is not that unusual.) Our SCA group was contact by a truss company to ride on their float: a 48 foot flat bed with a castle on each end and us in Medival clothes and two fighters in heavy armor fighting in the middle. So Earc and I arrived about 9AM (Tillamook is about an hour and a half two hours away. We got up at 6AM and those of you who know me know I like to go to bed between 2AM and 4AM so 6 wasn't my favorite part of this plan.) We were up in the float (reached by a ladder) when about 20minutes to parade time I decide to go use the restroom so I go down the ladder only there was a ditch that I stepped in. I twisted my ankle . . . again. (It seems like once a year for the last 3 years I twist my right ankle between the end of May and middle June. The first year i even managed it on my birthday.) Now I'm on the couch with ice (finally) on the ankle and pain meds. (Which I rarely take.) We did the whole parade(I sat on a chair on the float most of the time.) and then the guy who asked us to be in the parade had the eight of us over to his house for pizza as a thanks.(The float won the Festival trophy.)

Thanks. Ice is making it feel better. I just feel stupid for twisting it again.

Poor ankle. I can work out what your SCA group are, but I'm not at my best at breakfast and I can't work out what the letters actually stand for...

Ah - that makes sense of the letters. If we still lived in mainland UK I would love to join a similar re-enactment group. There is a proper Viking group being started on the Island, or so rumour has it, but I have never seen any contact info for them yet.

When they did a viking re-enactment here last year many of the proper Vikings came from off-Island, some were locals, but all from a couple of social clubs Peel, where it took place. I put some photos on my journal at the time - http://curiouswombat.livejournal.com/27515.html#cutid1
if you are interested.

The SCA does have branches in England. There is a branch that includes the Isle of Mann (that is were you are right?). Here is the address for the website from there you can find more info. http://www.glenrathlin.org/
