Title:An Angel File Conversation

Summary: Buffy has been reading Angel's file and calls to talk to him.

Notes:This is for the August fic a day. This takes place Angel season five in my AU. From the Angel File-1813 and From the Angel File are both referenced.

Angel was sitting on the couch in his penthouse looking over some files for the next day's work when his private line rang.

"This is Angel." he answered.

"Hey, Angel, it's Buffy," the voice on the other end declared.

"Buffy, what can I do for you?" Angel asked.

"I, um, have been reading your file. " she started hesitatingly. When he didn't say anything, she continued, “You know the one you had copied and given to the Watchers."

"Yeah, I know the file." Angel replied when he realized she wanted him to keep up his side of the conversation. “What about it?"

"I was reading about the Regency period in England and was reminded of the times, my Junior year, when you helped me with my history homework." Buffy said with more confidence now that Angel wasn't sounding like he was upset with her.

"I remember. You did have difficulty with names and dates." Angel smiled at the pleasant memories of sitting in a cemetery with Buffy in his arms, leaning against a headstone, and her history text spread across both their laps. The look of adoration in her eyes when she looked up at him. Those were the good times. before Angelus came out to play and before he knew about the pesky little happiness clause that would haunt him. He had been 241 and acting like a teenager.

"You were so good with the history because you had lived it." Buffy interrupted his stroll down memory lane. She went on," I mean I knew it at the time but that was only head knowledge. It has taken this long to sink in. You actually played cards with FitzWilliam Darcy at White's."

"I actually did. He was a good card player but his new wife was on his mind so he was easily distracted with talk of her. Charles Bingley wasn't much better. The only one of our foursome who wasn't easily distracted was Andrew Mac Liam."

"Angel, did you look at that family tree in your file?" Buffy asked softly.

"Of course I did. That was how I found out that Giles is my many times great grandchild. Why?" Angel was getting suspicious.

"Because Giles isn't the only descendant you've met." Buffy answered. "Andrew Mac Liam was your grandson. You played cards with your grandson and never knew it."

Angel was stunned. He should have made the connection long ago. After all the name was there taunting him for almost two centuries. Mac meaning son of and Liam being his own name.

"Buffy are you ready for the biggest twist. I met Eric Mac Liam once. I met my own son and never knew it. " Angel lamented.

"Angel, I'm so sorry." Buffy sympathized.

"It's all right. It is better I didn't know then." Angel said. "I probably would have killed him. This way some of my family survived."

"Angel." Buffy said not knowing what else to say.

"Buffy, thanks for calling. I'll be all right. One less regret for my long life. I met both of my sons. I had regretted not knowing my son when I first saw the family tree. Now I don't have that regret." Angel said trying to convey his feelings to Buffy over the phone. She was the only one who would understand.

"I could be in LA in four hours if you want." Buffy offered.

"Thanks but you have better things to do then sit with a lone souled vamp right now. Go out and slay something for me. Ok?" Angel said brightly.

"Ok. Night Angel." Buffy hung up the phone.

Angel sat in darkness and brooded on the news for awhile before going to bed.
