Reasons #42 and 43 not to be a potter.
May. 4th, 2006 03:46 pmThis didn't happen to me or my husband (thank goodness.) I was at the set up day for the Ceramic Showcase put on by the Oregon Potters' Association and someone was doing their job putting pottery on a shelf when it colapsed taking out several dozen pieces. (This was stuff for the gallery where the best in show gets voted on so this was peoples best work.) The sound of crashing pots is not a sound you want to hear at a ceramic show. This proves that stuff can go wrong even if the piece survives firing.
Speaking of firing, sometimes the kiln doesn't get to tempreture and an entire kiln load is crap and needs refiring. (But you can only do that once or twice before the piece fails.)
So don't be a potter.
