So after the Grand Canyon we went along Route 66.

October 4
We stopped at the Needles Field office of the BLM and ask the man there "If we only have an hour to see something in the area what should we not miss?" He replied that we should take this loop of old Routte 66 and stop at the town a guy recently bought to restore to the way it was at the Routte's hayday. And across the highway was the Amboy Crater, a baby cinder cone volcano, and that hould be seen. So we went there.

Friday October 5
We went up to Saint Helena and stopped at one of my two favorite wineries - Louis M. Martini. We tasted wines and I bought four bottles of very good wine. Then we went to Gott's Diner for hambergers. They rightly deserve their rating by Yahoo and others as one of the best burgers around.

Saturday October 6
We started out in Geyserville at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery for more wine tasting. (This would be the other favorite California winery.) I bought another six bottles. (I don't often buy wine but when I do I really buy wine.) Then while waiting for the wine to metabolize out of our system we walked around the tating room that is full of movie memorabilia of both Francis Ford Coppol's movies and his daughter Sophia's. This includes the display case with FFC's Oscars, Golden Globes and other awards. (It is really cool to be that close to several Oscar statues, though someday I hope to hold one of my own.)

Then we went through the Avenue of the Giants, the giant redwood tree park, before ending up in Crescent City.

Sunday October 7
We left Crescent City and went up the coast. We stopped at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

(I had overballanced in the sand with the backpack on and fell in the sand and [livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup had to take a picture.)
Then we headed home and met [livejournal.com profile] earcmacfithil in Salem for dinner and transfered my stuff to our car.

me and [livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup at the end of the trip, proving that we can more then survive two weeks of being constantly in each other's company. (Except for showers, we think the longest we spent apart the whole trip was when she rode the Roller Coaster at New York New York. There were a couple other instances of no more than 10 minutes. This fact does amuse some people.)
